Stuff and Nonsense

I don’t really feel like talking about my trials and tribulations today, so I’m not going to.  Instead, I’m going to talk about anything else.

I love looking at the statistics for my web pages.  I’ve started using a different tracking program, and it gives me a lot of information.  I can see when someone has visited, where they came from, where they’re physically located, what page they entered the site on, what page they left the site from, how long they’ve been on my site, etc.

What intrigues me, though, is when I get repeat visitors.  In general, I know who is reading my blog.  And I know where they’re located, so I can usually say, “Oh, that’s so-and-so.”  But when I get repeat visitors from an area of the country where I don’t really have friends or acquaintances, well, then I have to start wondering.  And I’m not talking a once a week visit, here.  No, I’m talking about almost daily visits.  So I start going down the lists of people I know, and eliminating unlikely ones, until the light clicks on (I can be dense sometimes), and I add 2 +2 and finally come up with 4.  So, I label that visitor in the statistics log, and go on about my day.

Unless you’re fairly computer literate and computer savvy, there really is no privacy on the Internet.  So while I use “aliases” for my friends and family, if someone knows anything about me, it’s pretty easy to figure out who I’m talking about.  But, that goes both directions.  Unless you’re taking actions to hide your identity, I can learn a lot about you when you read my pages.

Doing laundry all day is not my idea of a holiday, but I’d rather do laundry than spend my day the way I did last Monday, or especially the Monday before that.

I’ve spent my day when I haven’t been doing laundry watching Firefly on the SciFi channel.
