Work

I just realized that in my “Life” post, I mentioned that work was insane right now.  But I didn’t mention why.  I’ve been spending more time on MySpace lately (evil, I know) and I posted it there.

In a nutshell, my boss of 3 years has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease or ALS.  From my reading, the disease is never an easy one, and her particular version of it is more vicious than most.  She has (after having the disease for about 8 or so months) already developed advanced stage symptoms.  So the prognosis is extremely bleak.

In the 3 years she’s worked here, she has been nothing but fair to me.  She came to the agency during a time of, shall we say, upheaval, and was unbiased and honest from the start.  You always know where you stand with her, and I am no exception.  She judged me on my performance, not on what other people might have said about me.  She often told me that I had been “cannon fodder” in the upheaval, and that she didn’t blame me for any of it.

So, she is now out of the picture here at the office, but no one knows what’s going to happen next.  Officially, she’s still my boss.  There is talk of an interim person, who would probably be detrimental to my career.  But, in the meantime, I’m stuck in this professional limbo.
