It’s That Time of Year Again
Time to start sewing for the upcoming Faire season. I have 88 days and more projects than are probably good for me.
I am, of course, sewing some things for myself. On that list I have:
1. Pirate Outfit - Using a Butterick Pattern and modifying the heck out of it. I’ll be using the steel blue mum silk brocade that I received for Christmas for that one. I also have some wonderful steel blue stretch velvet for a pair of tights to go with it. Add in the black ‘ho boots, and I’ll be set.
2. Update last year’s Venetian. At a minimum, I need to remake the sleeves, add a second line of grograin ribbon to guide the laces, and fix the bottom hem. If I’m feeling ambitious or have extra time (insert maniacal laughter here), I’ll re-pad the pleats on the skirt.
3. Make new Venetian. I’ve got two different shades of red cotton velveteen, and I’m trying to decide which one to use. My plan is for a dress similar to this one, down to the crazy cutwork sleeves. I’m even trying my hand at digitizing and embroidering the reticella lace for the cuffs.
On the sewing for others front, I have:
1. A co-worker of TOH’s has asked for some simple things - a peplos, chiton, Viking apron dress, and chemise. Those are all pretty straight forward.
2. The Short Man needs new peasant garb. He’s gotten taller since last season, so nothing fits again.
3. And I’ve been commissioned to garb this man. I am working on several things for him, but I don’t want to give away any surprises yet.
So, that’s a list of what I’ll be doing in my “free” time for the next 88 days. Wish me luck.
