Is it Monday? What year is it?
So, I seem to have survived opening weekend. Somewhere along the line, oh, about Wednesday night or Thursday morning, I managed to strain all the muscles in my lower back again. I spent Thursday in a rather drug induced fog, but I managed to come to work, and get some things done. Friday was a scheduled day off, and I spent the morning asleep, and the afternoon having my hair re-dyed. (I’m much too young to have so much frickin’ grey, and the roots were atrocious to boot.) Friday night was spent finishing the Captain’s coat. Well, sort of finishing.
Saturday morning dawned bright and gloomy. The weather here was dismal. It was raining and cool when we left the house, and it drizzled off and on through the morning. By mid afternoon, it was just cloudy. But on the ride home, it poured. I thought the same was going to happen on Sunday, but after the initial clouds burnt off, it was a sauna all day.
The Captain is well pleased with his new coat. I still need to sew on the buttons, the loop closures and my “made by” tag, but he is just tickled. Which makes me tickled. He spent the weekend showing it off to anyone who’d stop to look. I even had a couple offers to collaborate on some garment business.
The usual cast of characters was in residence. We saw the Captain (obviously), Jamie, James, Carmen, Clancy, Talyn, Cathy, Loki, Annie, Kevin, Jason, that wee-14 year old who looks much older than she is, Ness, the Bubble Fairies, Danny, the Joker, John (formerly known as Wesley), Fuzzy, Grot, Carmen’s sister (who also looks much older than she is), and probably more that I’ve forgotten. It really is good to see them all again. We’ve also met new people, whose names mostly escape me at the moment.
The booth has been repainted in black and maroon, which amazingly goes well with the Captain’s coat. The new pirate ship is right next to the booth, at the children’s playground. I have a couple of shots of people on it, but I need to do some photo-editing before I can post them. I really didn’t spend enough time taking pictures this weekend. I spent more time catching up with everyone and wandering around or just trying to keep cool than anything.
The Short Man (TSM) took part in the Human Chess Match on Saturday. He had fun with that. He also now owns a pair of gillie moccasins. We need to remake his vest, but he has his short cloak, which suits him fine as well. We watched Fight School first thing on Saturday. They were adjusting to being on Market Stage now, and the Captain’s (no, not that Captain, the other one) “carriage breaking down”, so they were performing as a three man group, instead of the normal four.
I can’t remember what else I saw on Saturday, because TSM tends to want to just eat and play games. On Sunday, I watched Wolgemut, Shakespeare’s Skum, part of The Bloody Drama, part of Mike Rose, and Johnny Fox. (I think that’s all of it.) Sunday was a steam bath. It was too sticky to really do much but find shade and drink water. Since I seem to the only parent attending from our household, a beer isn’t really a great idea, since I don’t eat much on faire days. Of course, being the only parent attending leaves me free to flirt with all the pretty (and way too young for me, even if I weren’t happily married) men. I do enjoy seeing a man in a kilt.
Before this weekend, I plan (and things never work as planned) to remake my smock, since I made the sleeves too tight the last time, and maybe work on my corset. My bodice that I wore this weekend is a bit painful, because it cuts in at the waist line. I need something with a longer line, so that it sits closer to my hips. I think that the weather this weekend will be comfortable enough to wear my plaid overdress.
So, that’s the weekend wrap up. Now it’s time to focus and get some work done while I’m here at the office.
