She’s Gone
With apologies to Hall and Oates. And to my Mom. She got on the train this morning at 10:15 and will be arriving in Pittsburgh tonight at about 10:30 pm. What’s a six hour (or less) drive will take her twelve hours on the train. And not to mention the time it will take to get from the train station to her apartment.
I’m glad she came to visit, and I’m glad I’m lucky enough to still have a mother, unlike some of my work friends, who have lost their Mothers. But, and here is the rub, she makes me insane. My children don’t like her much either, and it shows. I’ve tried to keep my negative thoughts about her to myself, and not influence the children, but I’m sure some of it bleeds through.
My Mother is a devout Christian. I am not. I’m not sure I’d call myself an atheist just yet, but I really don’t know how I feel about any sort of religion. Secular Humanist is a fairly close description, but even that I’m not sure about. So there’s a lot of friction. And it wears on me. And I’m sure it rubs off on the kids.
So, I’m glad she’s on her way home. And I hope she has a safe trip. And I hope she remembers to call me when she gets home, but I’m not going to bet on it.
I started my exchange gift on Thursday night, and have finished 14 rows. Of course, I can’t say much more about it, because the recipient is a reader here, but I love the yarn I’m working with, and the pattern is well written and easy to follow.
Last night, while Klumpen was getting her hair cut and dyed (jet black with cherry red chunky “highlights”), I worked some more on the Lace Scarf. I’m still not to the halfway point, but I’m making pretty good progress. The receptionist at the salon asked me to make her one, to which I replied, “You can’t afford my prices.” She didn’t ask again after that.
I’ll knit for you, but only if I like you, and only if I want to. Otherwise, I might offer to teach you to knit or send you in the direction of a good knitting website or other resource. I’m all for encouraging other fiber junkies, and creating new ones, but asking me to knit for you isn’t going to get you anywhere.
