Sucks to be me today.
So, I’ve been working on this gift for a friend. My “Super Secret Christmas Exchange Project”, aka the SSCEP. I have the perfect hand-dyed yarn. I know what I want to make. I find a suitable pattern.
I get three inches done, and hate it. So I frog the whole thing and find a different pattern.
On to a second pattern. I get (after many mistakes and much frustration) about 1/4 of it done. T hen (as I discussed yesterday) I realize that the pattern is not “balanced”. The motif is directional, and one end should have been written to be reversed, but wasn’t. So I hate that, too. Again, I rip it all out and search for another pattern.
Pattern number three. I try to downsize it, because I didn’t want it to be huge, and I didn’t have enough yarn for the full version. Get about 2 inches done, and realize my math is wrong, and it’s not working out either. Again, back to the frog pond.
Pattern number four. A tried and true. Simple, yet elegant and shows off the hand-dyed yarn perfectly. Has 5 identical sections. I have 8 ounces of yarn. 8 divided by 5 equals 1.6 ounces. I finish one section, and weigh my remaining yarn (I need 6.4 ounces to finish the whole thing), and have only 5 ounces. I’m short 1.4 ounces. Yep, you guessed it, off to the frog pond yet again.
So, now, I’m on pattern number five. Which is working wonderfully, thank goodness, and is one of those “knit until you run out of yarn” types.
But now the question will be, “how much money will it take me to mail this to “XXXXX” before Christmas?
Work today consists of nagging people for information that was due to me yesterday, and then sending those bits of information back because they’re not what I asked for.
And can I just say how much I love the Spike one liners on Angel these days?
