My daughter wants to run away to become a pirate.
So, back to the weekly grind. I’m actually relieved to be back at work where it’s quieter. This weekend was exceptionally busy, and I’m glad to be able to sit in one spot for more than 15 minutes.
Friday night was taken up with more sewing, putting the finishing touches on TOH’s costume.
Saturday morning we all got up bright and early to head for the festival. We had to take separate cars, because Klumpen’s two friends went along with us, and my car only fits 5. So TOH & TSM went in his truck. We got there early enough to see the King’s welcome. That would seem to be the theme of my day as well, because everytime I turned a corner, I saw the King.
We had a great day, and saw two of the jousting sessions. I think I want to be a jousting groupie.
I saw no one un-horsed, except for the man who fell off while they were preparing themselves. But it was exciting to see them in action.
TOH got several compliments on his costume, and several people asked to take his picture. He had a ball becoming “Cardinal Deliverus Woe” or “Cardinal Ximinez” as the mood struck him. Several people asked to be absolved and blessed as well, so that they could go and sin some more, taking after the official Cardinal of the Fest, “Sinnius Vice”. TOH was also mistaken for him a couple of times.
Finally off we went, back to the comforts of the 21st Century. And say what you want about modern bras, they’re way more comfortable than the “Medieval Wonder Bra”, aka the Corset! I unlaced as soon as I got in the car.
Sunday we decided to take a much more leisurely approach, which turned out to be a mistake. We left our house at 11:30 am, but didn’t get to the faire until nearly 2:00. We should have been there by 12:30 or 1:00 at the latest, but traffic was horrendous. Much like trying to leave Nissan Pavilion after a sold-out show.
But, once we arrived, we had a great time again. TSM was a little peevish, because we’re more enthralled with the whole thing than he is, but once we bought him a cloak to keep warm, he was more into it.
We again had people stop TOH and ask for photos and blessings. We tried to see more shows this time, rather than spending all our money at games of chance for TSM. Even though he did win 2 free drinks at the frog pounding one. And we also caught the final round of the Jousting competition.
As we were leaving for the day, the young man who managed one of the booths asked if he could hire Klumpen to work there part time next year. So, we’re thinking about it. He said she’s outgoing, her voice carries and she’s cute, which all work well to hawk customers. Oh my god, my daughter makes a good carnie.
But she’s thrilled. She’s been wanting to work there since she first went, so she’s over the moon about being offered a job. We haven’t given permission yet. It’s contingent upon her maintaining good grades this year, and being better about doing her chores around the house. If we do say yes, the downside will be the 60 mile drive each way to get her there every weekend. But, she is thinking of pursuing a career in the arts, and this sort of atmosphere is ideal for that. We’ll have to see what happens.
I did manage to get the heel on my Opal sock started during all of our wanderings this weekend, but didn’t make much progress.
Now that the Festival season is over, and I’m not chained to my sewing machine, now I can get back to my knitting needles.
