Happy Birthday, TSM!

Today is my son J’s seventh birthday. How in the world did he get to be so big, so fast? He’s a fantastic person, and I love watching him grow and change. One thing has never changed, though. That million watt smile. When he’s happy, the whole world can see it. So, think good things for TSM today, and as he gets older in this crazy world in which we live.

Warning: Non-knitting rant ahead.

I’m sure this is going to generate some negative comments, but I’m tired of hearing about 9/11. Today is my son’s 7th birthday. It was his birthday before all of this happened, and in my little world, today is still all about him.

I’m not a cold hearted person. I know people who worked in both towers, and had to run for their lives. My agency’s offices there were flattened, and we were lucky no one was killed. It was a horrible thing, and rememberance is good. But this constant, repetetive coverage is getting to me. Especially when you consider that Osama bin Laden and/or his cronies are still out there, pushing our buttons with their audio and video tapes, and that the “war on terror” in Afghanistan has been swept mostly under the rug. It’s still there people, don’t you see that lump in the middle of the room?

I wonder if people who were born or had children or got married on December 7th felt the same way I do?

Today is TSM’s birthday. First, last, and always. I’m not going to let anything overshadow that.

So, last night, I was chugging along nicely on the “Tiger Eye” socks for Klumpen, when I had her try them on. (A great advantage of the toe-up method, by the way.) They were too big. I was totally wrong yesterday in thinking that the 51 stitches called for in the pattern would be too small.

So I completely frogged the whole thing, and re-did the cast on. I am sort of glad that I had to re-do it, because it gave me the chance to do the cast on much neater this time around. That was as far as I got, though, before I was too tired to think any longer.

Today’s plan, after a quick nap, and much wrapping of Birthday Gifts, will include a second go at the “Tiger Eye” sock, and the finishing (again!) of Klumpen’s fairy costume.
