I have a knitting student.
Last night, Klumpen’s friend K spent the night, and she asked me to help her learn to knit a hat. She already knows the basics, from her Mom, and wanted help from there. The nice thing for me is that she knits left handed, like I do, so it was easier to show her.
I’m using the Ann Budd book “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns: Basic Designs in Multiple Sizes & Gauges”. I showed her how to do a gauge swatch, and we’re making a Tam. I’ve even got her using dpns! She’s done a rolled brim for about an inch, and is now working on k1p1 ribbing for about an inch. Tonight, or the next time she’s over, we’ll start the increase rounds. She also twists her purls, but I showed her how to untwist them on the next row. I’m tickled that she asked me for help.
I did pick up the lining fabric for Klumpen’s dress, but I didn’t work on it as I’d promised her. I ended up working on K’s Bucket-O-Chic hat that I’m making, while helping her with her Tam.
It’s a little odd teaching someone when I still consider myself a new knitter, but I’m enjoying helping her out. Klumpen doesn’t really want to learn to knit, but she’s enjoying using the sewing machine, so I’m not going to push.
Today TOH has a doctor’s appointment involving lots of medications, so I’m leaving the office early to chauffeur him around. I also plan on having a nap when we get home.
