Last Weekend of Summer

Gah. The next time someone comes into my office at 4:15 on a Friday afternoon, and says “Oh, good. I’m so glad you’re still here,” remind me to pick up my bag and walk out the door right that instant.

Suffice to say that it wasn’t pretty; it didn’t get done; and they’ll be damn lucky it gets done next week and don’t be surprised if someone loses their job. And it won’t be me.

That was my Friday afternoon. Friday evening was much better. We went to dinner at the Olive Garden at L’s request. Nice dinner, nice time with the family. The only downside was the torrential downpour just as we were getting out of the car and running for the restaurant.

After dinner, we came home, and I helped K work on her Tam some more. She’d finished the ribbing, so we went on to the next step. I showed her how to do the M1 increase and got her going on that. Now she’s at a point where she only needs to knit straight until she has 4 inches from the bottom of the ribbing.

I enjoy talking with her about knitting, and it’s nice that she lets me ramble on about it.

Yesterday, Klumpen and I went to the library. I sat and knit on a sock, while she wandered around looking for something or other. She didn’t find it, so we headed off to the used bookstore next. She found a couple of books that interested her, but all of the knitting books they had were ones I already own or don’t want.

Our next stop was to Target to get her an alarm clock for the new school year. She wanted something louder than what she’s already got. So we found one that looks like a giant mutated version of an old wind up one. It’s loud. Very loud. So loud that it has a warning printed at the bottom of the face: “Warning: This alarm will wake you up.” Now for her to remember to set it every night.

We also stopped by the local pet store to see the animals up for adoption. And to look at everything else. Currently there is a beautiful Macaw waiting to be sold, and we spend a good amount of time talking to it. And then it bit Klumpen’s finger. And laughed at her. And did the bird victory dance. So we decided to stick to the safer puppies and kitties. And, of course, give all my $1 bills to the rescue league.

I’ve been doing a lot of knitting this weekend. It’s nice to catch up. I finally picked back up the baby sweater I’ve been working on for a friend, and have 3 more rows before it’s done. I hated the way the hood was looking, so I decided to leave it off, and make a seed stitch collar to match the hem, cuffs and button bands. It looks much better, and I’ll be able to give it to the Dad on Tuesday.

I also got another 16 row repeat done on the lace scarf I’m working on. I really like the way it’s looking. I still think I’ll give it to my Mother-in-Law, but it’s going to be hard to give it away. I’ll have to do another for myself.

Well, that’s about it. TOH’s off playing cards with friends from work, so it’s just me and the short people tonight. I’m going to bed early, and trying to get some sleep. Something I’ve been trying to do all weekend, but it’s not working.
