In Search of Fairy Costumes. Soon to be known as “The Ordeal”.
I think this is going to be another semi-lame entry. I really don’t have a lot to say today. I’m tired, of course, and have been in a knitting slump. It’s PMS time (and yes, that’s a stereotypical cop-out, but it’s true) and I just feel like lying around doing nothing.
Klumpen and I went to Borders last night, and I picked up a knitting book on finishing techniques. It’s Nancie Wiseman’s The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques. Finishing is something I’ve not done a lot of in my knitting career, so I’m not overly confident and I’m looking for all the help I can get. I mean, really, how much finishing is there in socks and scarves? And most of the sweaters I’ve made have been done in as close to one piece construction as I can get. So, I need finishing help.
I should probably take a finishing class, but the classes at Stitches East this year really don’t inspire me. I’m not sure if I’m going to go or not. Maybe I’ll just go up for the market, and make a day trip out of it. It’s about a four-hour drive, so I could do it on a Saturday.
Anyway, I digress. While Klumpen and I were at Borders, we ran into K and her Mom. BeBe and I talked about the costumes the girls want to make for this year’s RenFaire, and how were we going to talk them out of strapless. I think we made our point, and they’re willing to consider at least one-shouldered dresses. I need to start scouring the web for ideas on a pattern, because nothing we’ve seen in the stores will work. I’m not a designer, people! Ugh. But, they want one of a kind costumes, so we’ll do our best.
After Borders, we stopped at PetSmart to pick up some bunny snacks, so that the toddlers at TSM’s daycare don’t trample me when I pick him up today. Klumpen got mad at me because I wouldn’t let her bring home the 5 (or even just 1) kittens they had up for adoption. Mean old Mom. But we already have 4. And since it’s her job to clean out the litter boxes, and she does a crappy job of it already, there’s no way I’m going to add a fifth cat to that mess. So she was in tears. I think she’s in PMS territory, too. We seem to be synching up.
Anyway, today’s goal is to try to find a pattern or a design idea a little more substantial than her sketch for her fairy costume. What a nightmare. So, probably no knitting content tomorrow, either.
